This week in Science:

Grade 7L has begun working on their media presentation.
Grade 7S will be finishing their media presentation this week.

Grade 7S has completed their report on fungus growth and is now moving on to their next task. They're developing their media presentation on their topic of diseases. The media presentation aims to have students apply and develop their science communication skills.
Grade 7L is still working on their report and will begin working on their media presentation next week.

We worked hard to collate all the data and using that data to write science reports. Students used various structures to help them with the report - structure of report file, improving independent variable file, sample reports and the rubrics. The most challenging part of the report is to find scientific explanations to their hypothesis and conclusion.

7S and 7L are collecting their data on fungus growth. Different colonies and rate of fungus growth were recorded. Students were excited and engaged.

Students are setting up their experiment on ' factors affecting fungus growth'. The context - fungus is an infection to the bread. Don't worry, safety precautions are in place - students wearing masks. I'd say that students are having a better understanding of how experiments can be controlled, like making sure each sample receive the same amount of nutrients. Some awesome results will be collected. Please discuss the experiment with your child, they should be excited to share their experience with you.

Objectives achieved this week are -

  1. Questioning/ Inquiring technique so students have better understanding of task and how they can perform better at the task.
  2. Planning and discussion for upcoming science investigation: factors affecting the growth of fungus. This investigation will enable students to have a better understanding of disease proliferation and adaptation, and allows students to practice their experimental skills.
  3. The agreement that students will actively update their science learning and work into their science wiki page.
  4. Dilution technique to study factor of acidity.
